In 1934 the first official Soap Box Derby was held. This is also the year that the Monroe County Library System was started, so come to the libraries and help us celebrate by entering our mini soap box derby. You will be able to design your own car and then race it against other contestants. Materials will be provided, but start thinking about your design. You will be using a box from a bar of soap for the body of your car. There will be various tournaments throughout Monroe County where you can race. Two winners will be announced at each tournament; one for best design and one for fastest car. The winners from each tournament will go on to the finals at the Ellis Reference and Information Center. This tournament is designed for school aged kids.
