Classical Conversations

A Toledo campus of Classical Conversations will open for the 2008-2009 school year. Foundations and Essentials levels will be offered, and possibly a Challenge level if there is interest. If you would like to receive information about the program, please email Angela Hite.

Space Day

Join the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and Directions Credit Union for SPACE DAY, an exciting free program that brings youth closer to outer space, scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Main Library, 325 Michigan Street. All activities will be held in the Children’s Library and on the Civic Plaza rooftop, weather permitting.

Survival: Swan Creek Edition!

Saturday, May 24

Swan Creek Preserve Metropark, Glendale Entrance, 1 to 3:15 p.m.

Youth ages 11-14 will learn proper survival techniques for meeting the basic need of food, water and shelter as well as strategies for emergency management in outdoor situations. Emphasis will be placed on the seasonal changes that Spring brings. It is suggested that participants bring a water bottle. Snacks will be provided. Fee: $ 5.00

Kid's Birding on International Migratory Bird Day

Oak Openings Preserve, Buehner Center Porch, 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Kids ages 7-12 along with their families will go on a walk and learn basic birding skills on International Migratory Bird Day. Binoculars will be provided. Fee: Free

Art Explorations through Nature: FUNdamentals of Nature Photography

Swan Creek Preserve Metropark, Yager Center Parking Lot, 1 to 2 p.m.

Youth ages 6 to 12 will learn the FUNdamentals of capturing nature through digital photography. Practice photography techniques in the field and have photos featured on the Metroparks Website. Cameras available for use. Fee: $ 5.00

Canal Experience: Opening Celebration

Saturday, May 3

Providence Metropark, Kimble's Landing, 12 to 5 p.m.

Journey along the restored Miami & Erie Canal in a mule-drawn canal boat, The Volunteer, visit the Isaac Ludwig Mill for some stone-ground cornmeal and shop at the General Store. Members are invited to ride the canal boat for free to celebrate opening day. A fee is charge for admission to the boat.

During this hands-on day of fun you can also experience horseradish grating, window washing, rope making, wigwam building and more!"

"The dynamic duo of Lewis & Clark led the Corps of Discovery on a daring mission to find a route to the Pacific through the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. Tim Kreps & Al Thompson dress as Lewis & Clark & tell the tales of their daring adventure. A variety of Indian & trade artifacts will be shared to bring these stories to life. Power point slides help the audience understand the scope of this undertaking. Many of the slides were taken by Al on his 3,800 mile solo bike adventure following the Lewis & Clark trail from St. Louis to the Pacific. “Lewis & Clark: In Their Own Words” has been performed by Tim & Al in a variety of venues including The Maumee Indoor Theater, local schools, Wolcott House Guild Lecture Series & many more. Leader: Tim and Joan Kreps Limit: 40 Fee: $5.00"
